2019 Honda Civic Performance Models

You believe that cars are more than just a means of transportation. They are to be loved and enjoyed. They get your heart racing. You seek out the thrilling drives the country has to offer - from the Kancamagus Highway and Smuggler's Notch switchbacks of the northeast to Tennessee's Cherohala Skyway to Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina, you are looking for drives that challenge you and your car.

At Honda, we believe that the perfect vehicle for these roads doesn't need to be a European supercar with only enough room for a backpack in the trunk, or a motorcycle with no space for passengers. That's why we took our Civic and kicked it up a notch. Because why wouldn't you want the base of your fun to be one of the most reliable cars on the market?

The 2019 Civic Si balances a premium driving experience with the safety of the traditional Civic - because you're responsible, but still want to have fun. If maximizing space is important to you, the Si Sedan is the way to go, the four-door body style means more space for passengers. If the sporty look is more your style, the Si Coupe with its two-door body style is more your speed.

Fun comes from the 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that pushes out 205 horsepower and 192 lb.-ft. of torque, synced with the smooth-shifting six-speed manual transmission. It rockets up to 60 miles per hour from a standing start in only 6.3 seconds, and tops out at 137 MPH. At the same time, it is a responsible engine - around State College it gets 28 MPG, while out on the highway to Altoona it can get up to 38 MPG.
The balance continues inside, where the 450-watt premium audio system with 10 speakers is the centerpiece, running through a 7-in. display audio system with high-resolution touch-screen. Bluetooth hands-free phone and streaming audio are standard, as is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, mirroring your smartphone for ease of use. Dual-zone automatic climate control makes it so both front seat passengers can be at their comfort level. Textured aluminum pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an aluminum shift knob add to the sporty feel.

There's no skimping on space in the Civic Si either - you'll be able to take some friends along for the ride. In the Si Sedan, 36.8 inches of headroom in the rear along with 37.4 inches of legroom means that even the average adult will have space to enjoy a trip to Lock Haven. There's even plenty of space for cargo, with 14.7 cubic feet being plenty for everyone to bring along a duffel bag. The Si Coupe loses some space for a sleeker roofline, cutting down to 34.5 inches of headroom and 35.9 inches of legroom in the rear, along with 11.9 cubic feet of cargo space.

Honda Civic Type R

Sometimes, though, you just need to push it to the limit. The 2019 Honda Civic Type R sports a turbocharged 2.0L engine pumping out 306 horsepower, running through a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission with rev-match control is perfect for putting the most power to the pavement possible. Lightweight single-mass flywheel and a limited-slip differential keep weight low while reducing wheel-spin through tight corners.

Control comes with that power. The 20-in. wheels with maximum-performance summer tires create a superior connection with the road, for tight cornering and accurate steering. Brembo® 4-piston front brake calipers and 13.8-in. ventilated and cross-drilled front brake discs provide

immediate stopping power, letting you slow down to hit the apex of the turn before roaring off again. The tires will stay cool too, giving you optimum stopping power no matter how long you're driving on them.

Inside, there is everything the modern driver needs. High-bolstered sport seats with red and black faux suede keep the driver and front passenger firmly in place, even during high-performance maneuvers. The steering wheel continues the black and red motif, and is leather-wrapped, while the aluminum shift knob and textured aluminum pedals turn up the sporting vibe. Want to add to the ambiance? Opt for the red leather-wrapped aluminum shift knob, red interior illumination, and illuminated door sill trim.

Smart Entry, with push button start for ease of entry. Dual-zone automatic climate control, for maximum comfort. A 540-watt premium audio system with 12 speakers for the ultimate driving soundtrack. And at the heart, a 7-in. Display Audio with high-resolution touch-screen, featuring the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ with voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, along with Bluetooth® hands-free phone and streaming audio, keep you connected wherever your driving desires take you.

All of this is wrapped in an aggressively sporty exterior. While the Civic Si opts for small hints of Silver Civic Type R rear spoilersport here and there to differentiate it from a standard Civic, the Type R goes all-out. LED headlights with automatic on/off and LED fog lights show the way, hugging the blacked-out grille with Type R badging. The aluminum hood with intake cuts weight, while the rear end features body-colored, roof-mounted vortex generators and a wing spoiler. The underbody spoiler kit with red striping adds some flair, while the center-mounted, triple outlet exhaust will leave an impression on every car you overtake.

Whether you are a hardcore Honda gearhead, or a performance-minded driver who loves capability and comfort, the performance versions of the Honda Civic - the Civic Si Sedan and Coupe and the Civic Type R - are some of the best bets out there today. Combining the great history of Honda engineering and Honda Racing with modern desires, it's a vehicle that would more than satisfy the owners of the high-brow, high-ticket sports cars out there.
